Reasons Why You Should Roast Your Own Coffee  by Ivan Anyayahan
Do you ever wonder why some coffee lovers choose to roast their own Coffee Beans? Well, if you are not one of them then you would probably have a hard time understanding the art of coffee roasting. You may even believe that it is quite illogical as you can easily buy pre-packed roasted beans to avoid trouble. But still, why do people prefer to roast their own coffee beans?
The main reason why people tend to roast their coffee is because it is one of the proven ways to guarantee the freshness of the coffee. Using only packed beans will not give you the quality that can be attained from freshly roasted beans. Best-tasting coffee can be produced by using roasted coffee beans aged 18 hours up to one week and a half. Using beans of this caliber will surely provide you with an extraordinary and highly enjoyable coffee experience!
The secondary reason for coffee roasting is for storage purposes. Basic knowledge on coffee’s shelf life will tell you that raw coffee beans generally live much longer than those that were already roasted. So this characteristic of the raw beans will give you the choice to stock up on beans without them being stale. Green coffee beans can live up to a year or more which is pretty long compared to the life span of the roasted beans which is only up to two or more weeks. Ground coffee lasts for relatively shorter amount of time compared to the roasted ones.
With the long life characteristic of the raw coffee beans you are actually given the power and control over your coffee supply. Having a stable stock of beans will generally help you save time and effort for the future. It will help you save time and effort because you won’t need to frequently shop for roasted coffee from the stores as your supplies are readily available already in your house. With much green or raw beans at your disposal, you are given the luxury to roast and consume your cup of coffee at any time!
But you should also know that coffee roasting is not for everyone. You should first consider some things in order to do the roasting yourself. Do you possess a coffee roaster to do the trick? Do you have the space for a coffee roaster at your home? Does your house have proper ventilation for the smoke that will be yielded by the roasting process? Ask yourself these questions to see if you are ready or not for coffee roasting. But if you decide that you are indeed ready, then I bid you good luck and I hope you enjoy the freshness of newly roasted coffee beans!
