How to paint a ceramic Coffee mug?

I want to paint a Ceramic Coffee Mug as a gift this christmas. Is there a specific kind of Ceramic Mug I should be looking for? What kind of paints should I use? I will only be painting the outside, but I want to make sure it’s one of those paints that can get baked in or are permanent, etc. Any tips, suggestions? Brands of items would be great too.

Check around your area and see if there is a pottery place or kiln. For a charge you can go in, find your cup, use their paints – and they bake it for you.
